Tech Update: DirectX 12 Migration Progress
Over the last three months, our rendering engineers have been quietly gutting and rebuilding the underlying graphics pipeline of Ashen Throne to fully support DirectX 12 Ultimate.
Why the Migration?
With guild battles projected to support up to 500 simultaneous combatants in tight fortress choke-points, CPU draw-call bottlenecking was our primary obstacle. Our transition to DX12 allows us to heavily parallelize draw calls across all available CPU cores, resulting in a dramatic uplift in 1% low frame rates during mass sieges.
What to Expect in Alpha
Testers in the upcoming Alpha phase should see significantly more stable frame rates in clustered scenarios. Please note that shader compilation stutter may still be present during the first few minutes of gameplay as we refine our pre-caching solutions before Beta.
